Long Range Surf Report

It’s now less than a week away and eventually the surf reports for the university surf championships are starting to filter in. Wavescape has foggy long range details, Magic Sea Weed is giving a hazy 30% accuracy to their forecast and Wind Guru is only providing information for nearby Wilderness. So all we can do now is wait and speculate.
Here’s what Magic Sea Weed have to say:

So it looks like Sunday might be fun for a little get to know the spot surf and Monday morning is potentially ok, with light onshore wind and a decent swell size. But as the swell picks up I fear we might run out of options. Vic Bay doesn’t handle much over six foot and five meter plus open ocean swell should translate to more than that. The nearby breaks like Wilderness and Herald’s Bay pick up more swell than Vic, which faces more Easterly and so if Vic maxes out the contest could be on the move to further flung places.
The Southern Cape has also received more than its fair share of rain this winter and next week the trend looks set to continue. Expect cold temperatures and rain, so pack those long johns, waterproofs and for the surf, booties.

There is a silver lining however… for some…
The cold weather is going to play havoc on the shaven newbie heads.
Sorry that’s probably only a silver lining if you’re a little sadistic. Which given the snow on the mountains the year I suffered the chop, I am going to have to say I am.

Keep an eye on the blog because I’ll be keeping you posted as the swell and weather develops. But for now let’s hope the long range forecasts are overestimating somewhat. Not that it is going to get this big...
